This morning they cleaned a really LARGE church from top to bottom in record time. We should make it back to Cleveland early enough to get the vans returned to the rental company by our deadline. Thank you all for your support and prayers and for allowing us to borrow you, your family, or your congregation member for this week.

We had many funny stories to share during lunch. There are three dogs next door SnoGo wball, Buddy and Brandy (we’re not sure on this last name). Overall it’s been a very productive, educational, and fun week for the Orange Team! Yeah for Mission Trip 2011!!!!

As you may or may not know, our Wednesday fun day was a bit different this year. Technically, it’s not even until Friday, but the evening was a fun time. A special event was happening at the church, so yesterday evening we were only authorized to be within our sleeping quarters. At first, if memory serves, we were going to go swimming and grill out for dinner, but the weather people predicted horizontal rain and hail, so the plans changed. But as is the theme of the week, we were flexible.

We all went to the original KFC for dinner, which is actually right here in Corbin! It acts as both a KFC restaurant and a museum in honor of the original owner. We had a buffet of sorts in their back room. everyone seemed to have fun there.

Afterwards, the missionaries had their choice of one of three activities: Go back to the church, go bowling, or go to the falls. There were plenty of people for each one of these events. The falls were a great sight to see, certainly a highlight of the week. A massive river of rushing water, down water falls and into the seemingly enchanted forests of this area. There were several overlooks from which to view. It rained, which some might consider a downer, but the rain helped add to the experience of this water-centered area, and assisted in presenting the beauty and freshness of God’s creation. The bowling event went well also. There were some great bowlers there! And it’s been reported that many people at the church caught up on their words of encouragement!

Our worksites are continuing to come along. We have today to work on them and the morning part of tomorrow. Afterwards, we will (hopefully, weather permitting) be going swimming and enjoying our recreation day; celebrating a fun, enlightening, and productive week.

Though it’s probably been said several times, please know that we appreciate your prayers and support for this mission. They have certainly made a positive difference!

Today the green team put up more drywall and mudded the drywall. The green team and the blue team are working together for the first half of the week. When the mud dried on the drywall we had to sand all of it smooth so it can be ready to paint later by another work team that will finish what we started. Everyday around noon we stop for a lunch break and go over our devotions for the day. We have finished almost everything that we need to do at our site. Today we are going to the original KFC museum. We are all having a great time at work mission this year and we don’t want it to end!

Last night’s devotional was great. Kat K’s team had a very meaningful presentation relating work mission, works vs grace, body vs spirit. Everyone left very impressed and thinking much more deeply about why they are here. The spirit was definitely moving, at least in the thunder and lightening. The snoring that followed was not the quiet voice of God, however.

On other fronts, there were no fireflies in the dorm last night. Someone’s phone kept going off all night. Only slightly more annoying than the dinosaur rock that awakened us to get up. Our group is now looking forward to a relatively short day as we’re going on a picnic supper tonight. We do hope to nearly complete the mud job today.

We are putting up drywall, taping and mudding a new house. After getting there the first day, everything is going smoothly. Our team has made new friends with the people from Mountain Outreach. Mountain Outreach is a group that works during the summer helping many groups in need. We very quickly made friends with Tomas (pronounced TOE-mas) who is very funny and open-minded. We have made a great deal of progress, and hope to move on to another work site by Thursday. Throughout the week we have been working along side the green team. Today we did not get lost in another state, no bugs were licked, we learned to count the number of people on our team, devotions were read correctly, and overall we had a successful day.
