Hello friends, Wow, what a week for a newbie to the youth mission projects! I had NO idea what I was in for literally; long hours, endless bending, up and down ladders, hardworking, enthusiastic, energetic, hungry, and fun loving youth, and our incredible devoted youth leaders. My life has been enriched by this one week.

Parents you can be so proud of your children. I enjoyed every moment with them and really appreciated their true concern when I was stalked by a mouse; Daniel Allen to the rescue!

So many people spent endless hours to plan and implement this mission trip, Mike Eyers, Gary Hale, Kelli New and others who supported this program. We are grateful to the many stockholders who financed this trip without you this program would not happen. The adults who participated in this program, Richard Fox, Kathi Rohr, and Rhonda Hale deserve a huge hug for their patience and guidance on the jobs with the youth. Quite frankly I didn’t believe the job assignments would get finished in one week. Well was I ever wrong!! With the adults assistance and encouragement the energetic kids tackled and completed the assigned jobs.

We were all touched and blessed by the worship services lead by Mike and Gary. They continuously encouraged the kids by their actions and words.

Our week wasn’t all work, we DID have a lot of fun and laughter too. Thanks to Susan Allen for Gumby who was the source of much entertainment this week.

Yes, I am glad to sleep in my own bed tonight but I so glad to have shared this week with many special people; I have been blessed. Wow, what a week!

Susan Hunt

Sadly, today was the final day in our fun and exciting mission trip experience. The week went by pretty fast and I still can’t believe how much we got done! We painted the whole outside of a mobile home in Ignacio, (which had the endless battles of hornets, wasps, spiders, and a clingy fence) and made it look brand new! I was happy to help out Kathi (the loving, caring, and sweet lady who lived in this house) and was touched by how much a new coat of paint can really affect someone. :)

The inside of a senior center in Ignacio was given a fresh, clean, and newer feel thanks to some paint, new baseboards, and hard workers! Even though we dealt with paint everywhere, a little bit of rain, and a stubborn mouse, the job was well done. And also, a brand new ramp was constructed for an elderly lady who needed a new ramp for her mobile home.

The whole week was fun filled including: an exciting (even though maybe not thrilling) river rafting experience, basketball games at the church, team building exercises (*cough* Starbucks *cough*), and a few trips to the downtown Durango. Also, don’t forget Gumby had a great impact also on this trip! :)

I want to thank many people including: Kelli for planning and helping set up the trip. The cooks and people from the senior center for the delicious and generous lunch meals. Susan and everyone that helped in the kitchen for the yummy breakfasts and dinners. All the adult volunteers that drove, worked, cooked, and put up with all of us teenagers. Also, Mike: who was in charge of the whole experience and did an excellent job!!!

Thanks to everyone who purchased stock to help send us on the trip and every single person that helped make this mission possible.

:) “Semper Gumby”

<3- Emma

We got both of the offices to do and we had to paint a lot today. the group that worked out side got everything that they needed done and so did we. I am so sad that today is our last day I could have worked at least 1 more week at least the weather is so nice here. we are heading out tomorrow into the heat but I guess its good so we could spent time with our family and friends. Thanks again for who ever supported us for this trip.

Hey guys! Sorry there wasn’t a blog yesterday. We were a little short on time before lights out. So let’s play catch-up. Yesterday both teams worked their booties off to try and make today as easy as 1-2-3. Team 3 practically finished painting the mobile home, as well has replace the steps up to the front door and the railing on the porch. I had the opportunity to use an electric saw and cut the stairs. :) Our worship yesterday was a very moving one. Mike’s lesson on intentional fellowship brought tears to many an eye, including his own.

Today, team 3 completely finished the trailor as well as replace a ramp for an elderly woman at another mobile home (all before noon). Teams 1 and 2 scrambled to finish the senior center with a little help from team 3. :) Lucky for us, it rained A LOT! We just finished our steak dinner (no joke) and are planning a lot of fun for tonight!

Can’t wait to see you all this weekend! God bless.

Love, Emily Fox

Also in the morning our group went to starbucks just to waste time wait for Gary (the boss man) to get done at Home Depot. After that we painted for three hours and then went to lunch at the Senior Center. IT WAS REALLY GOOD!!!! Then our group (team three) went back to the trailer and finished painting. After that Emily cut lumber for the stairs. Then Gary and I built the the stair way. Next we went and took showers (that felt good after working for eight hours). Then we drove back to the church . After that we had free time for a few hours. Then we had a worship service.

Today we are having a fun day we are going white river rafting today but we sill are going to work. At first we had a delicious breakfast made by my mom. Then we went to our work site and some did the base board and some painted some more then some more were working outside. We had got a lot done today only in 3 hours of work we work so hard to try get as much done as possible. One of the teams were working so hard they worked up a sweat just being inside. After we worked we had a spaghetti lunch that was good for the most part then we cleaned up and went on our trip. White \water rafting was so much fun we all split in groups and then I got kicked out of two of them but I had so much fun with all of the adults I splashed Gary/had a water fight. we went on the trip for 2 hours which was fun going over the rapids. Even though the water was low we still had fun playing arownd splashing the other adults, kids and the tour guides. Well, we will see how much we get done tomorrow at the work site we are making so much progress.

Hi again! Today was our half work/half recreation day. In the morning, Mike’s group left early for some “team bonding” and bought Starbucks for anyone who wanted it. Once we arrived to the work sites (slightly behind schedule I might add), teams one and two continued painting and applying new baseboards to the Ignacio senior center. Team three went back the the trailor where we buckled down and almost finished painting the exterior walls of the trailor white. Tomorrow is what Gary refers to as “Testosterone Thursday” because everyone is paranoid that they won’t finish in time. Wish us luck!

In the afternoon, we went on a two-hour “white-water” rafting trip (fairly anti-climatic rapids, as my dad puts it) in el Rio de Animas (the Animas River), which translates to the river of lost souls. We split into four rafts and had numerous races and splash fights against one another. After the rafting, we attempted to picnic at Fort Lewis College in Durango, but it began to storm (not to mention we may have gotten a little lost). We did, however, get some beautiful scenic pictures before we left. Once we got back to the church, we devoured our pizza (it was Susan’s night off) and joined in worship. Later a few of us decided to go downtown to the Durango Street Fair and shop aroud. Davilyn, the Ashley’s (Fox and Hunt), and I walked around singing to numerous songs. Unfortunately there were no tips. However, a local (or as Gary calls them, Duragatans) finished the chorus to the Beatles classic All You Need is Love for us.

Tomorrow should be an interesting and stressful day. We’ll be sure to fill you in on it afterwards.

Good night to all you readers and God bless you!

Love, Emily Fox
